I wasn’t able to make remote desktop connection to my fresh installation of Windows 8. After running
netstat -an, I noticed that port 3389 which is required for remote desktop connection isn’t being listened.
You may find several topics about this issue by this search. The reason could be registry settings, disabled services or firewall. It was different for me.
How I sorted this problem out is that I installed this small RDP client:
After installing and rebooting the computer, 3389 started listening.
